BRIGHTER DAY FOR BOTH

While it is such a joy to deliver meals and visit with our homebound seniors, sometimes an extra special sentiment is exchanged that touches your heart deeply. Such was the case when staff, family and friends helped John celebrate his recent 100th birthday.

When all the celebrating was through and it was time for one of the staff members to head back to the office, John held tight to her hands and shared, “It is very important for you to understand just how meaningful Meals on Wheels is to me. I was not in a good place at all mentally before I started the service. And then the volunteers starting coming by and, well, they helped me realize I can still have a joyous life. And now I am singing my heart out again and this is because of all of you. I really don’t know if the volunteers understand just how meaningful they are in my life. I hope you tell them this.”

John and the staffer gave each other a heartfelt hug. Both of their days were made so much brighter and happier for the meaningful moment shared.
